February Bible Reading Plan
Plagues! Dreams! Socialism! Murder! This Month Has It All!
It’s been fun hearing from a lot of you who have been using this reading plan so far this year. More people than I expected! I’m honored and a little nervous. At some point, I’m sure it will become very obvious that I am a guitar player and not a Bible scholar, so thanks for your generosity and sticking with me.
February is going to be a wild month. Here’s a PDF you can download if you’d rather have that.
In the Old Testament we’ll move through the end of Genesis, which is Joseph’s brother’s trying to kill him, him getting thrown into an Egyptian jail where he eventually becomes a ruler. Along the way he gets sexually assaulted and interprets some crazy dreams and plays some tricks on those murderous brothers of his, before ultimately coming to their rescue, forgiving them and being reunited.
Then we’ll fast forward to Moses, who will immediately also attempt murder, but actually succeed, then run from the law, before coming back to try and free his people from slavery. Before you know it, we’ve got frogs raining from the skies and rivers running thick with blood. Will Pharoah ever let them go? He’s more back and forth than Trump with a Chinese tariff. Come along and find out what happens! It’s a nail-biter.
In the New Testament we’ll read through the whole books of Acts. This is essentially the story of the first Christian church, after Jesus leaves the scene. There are only a handful of followers, they have no real power of any kind, and we see them wrestle through what it means to live differently in light of Jesus’s death and resurrection, individually, yes, but more so as a community.
The story will shift midway and start to center around a guy named Saul, who will eventually become the man we know as Paul. We’ll read a lot of his writings later this year, as he ended up some of the most influential Epistles in the Church’s history.
I love that his origin story is included here. It will make reading his words a few months later all the richer.
In the evenings we’ll keep reading the Psalms, too. I’ve personally really enjoyed that rhythm. I’m very curious, for those of you who have been using it that way - has that been helpful for you?
For me, it’s been a real joy to have this plan, and to know that others are reading along at the same time.
At some point, too, I know I’ll need to tell you what this is all aiming towards. I need to get through next week’s recording first and then I’ll start thinking in earnest of how to share it.
Please do let me know, either in comments or emails, how this is working for you, and if you have any comments, ideas or questions about anything - pacing, reading length, things I chose or ommitted, etc… It’s all very helpful.
Mostly, though, I hope you enjoy it. Let’s keep going!! This month truly is going to be wild!!
Here’s a fitting interview to share with you. This week’s episode of The Pivot was with Matt Markins, President of AWANA, one of the largest child discipleship ministries in the world, and likely the reason many of you reading remember at least a few Bible verses to this day.
Matt’s an amazing guy and this was a wonderful conversation. One of my favorites in this past season. Check it out!

Is the March reading plan coming?
The reading plan has been great so far, although I'm interested in why some verses are omitted?
